5 Important Tips For Painting Your Pantry in Franklin, MA

In the entire house, there’s one room that often gets ignored in terms of keeping up a good appearance despite the fact that it can be quite a significant room — that room is the pantry, the place to keep all of your dry and non-refrigerated food stored neatly.

Though you may very well think that it’s not entirely necessary for your pantry to get painted, it’s likely a good idea to paint it — give it a better look even if you’re only using it as a room for storage.

Since the room can be often a bit different, size wise, you are going to have some issues that you wouldn’t have with rooms that are typically bigger.

With that being the case, let’s look at five important tips for painting your pantry in Franklin, MA.

1. Check Out The Lighting

One thing you’re going to want to do before you start the painting process is to think about the kind of lighting that you have in your pantry.

If your pantry is relatively well lit, your choices for color are going to be a bit wider than if it is not nearly as well lit — or if the appearance of the color doesn’t bother you, it may not matter.

Less well-lit rooms should more likely get a lighter color to go along with it so that the overall effect is that the room does not appear so dark.

2. Properly Clean The Walls And Shelves

It’s important that the surfaces that you have clean walls and shelves before you paint your pantry, and even though clean surfaces are always important in any given painting process you will have to be more careful when you’re painting a pantry.

The difference here is that you’re working in a room that is well known to be full of food, and though of course, you are always careful when transporting food in and out of the room there are such things as accidents and food stains can happen.

If the food stains involve any kind of oil or grease, you will need to make use of some kind of grease cleaning agent to ensure that they get properly cleaned.

3. Check For Expired Food

Though your primary purpose in this painting project is to ultimately get your pantry painted, there are other things you’ll also accomplish.

In the process of removing all of the food from your pantry (you can imagine that painting a pantry while it is full of food is nearly impossible), you should take the time to remove any food that is expired — there’s no sense in putting food back if you’re never going to eat it.

4. Gently Sand Walls And Shelves

Any time you paint an interior surface, you will find that it is easier to get the painting done if the surfaces that are being painted are smooth.

Though there is no such thing as a perfectly smooth surface, the more that you can do to smooth the surface the better off you will be.

If, for example, you gently sand the walls of the pantry as well as the shelves that are going to be painted, it will make these surfaces that much smoother.

5. Give Time To Dry

The last thing that you should remember when you are painting your pantry is that as small as the room may be, the surface has to dry before you move on to the next step in the process.

After cleaning these surfaces, for example, you need to wait for them to fully dry before you move on to applying a coat of primer.

After applying this primer, you will also have to wait.

This also includes what you have to do after you apply each coat of paint.
