5 Tips For Properly Painting Your Living Room in Franklin, MA

Your living room can be one of the most pleasant places where you can spend time with your family and friends, and depending on how the room looks you can think of it with greater admiration if it looks nice — and you can definitely make your living room look that much nicer if you paint it well.

In the pursuit of a well-painted living room, you should make the effort to do what it takes to ensure a better-looking paint job — and in the course of this article, we will explain a few things that you can do from a practical perspective that will help in terms of paint life as well as the overall cost.

Let’s now look at and consider five tips for properly painting your living room in Franklin, MA

1. Making A Painting Schedule

One thing that’s going to help you paint your living room is to make a painting schedule for the painting project.

The reason that this is the case is that as the painting project can be quite extensive, it’s helpful to break it up into segments – some are more active and some are more passive (specifically when you’re allowing surfaces to dry – more on this in a bit)

It’s important to schedule your active time for when you’re actually up and about and to try to set the passive times for times when you can either find something else to do or even when you can rest at night.

You can certainly paint without a schedule but you’re likely going to spend more time doing the same paintwork as someone who has made a schedule for themselves.

2. Using The Right Sort Of Paint

In taking on any painting project, you’re going to have to make sure that you are well equipped with paint — and it’s best to not just go for whatever happens to be on sale, of course.

Though of course, you should be well aware that you’re going to be making use of paint that’s for the interior of your home and not your home exterior, there are other important nuances that you should be aware of when you’re looking to paint your living room.

Specifically, since your living room can at times be one of the busier rooms in the house it’s worth using a kind of paint that is easier to clean, and that means a glossier paint.

3. Sanding Before Starting

As you want your painting to go as well as possible, it’s a good idea to start off with surfaces that are smoother than not.

To that end, you should make efforts to do things that will get this smooth surface, including sanding the surface that you’re going to be painting.

Bear in mind that this is not going to be rough sanding that you should be doing but rather gentle enough that your surface will end up smoother, leaving it ready for you to paint.

4. Fixing Imperfections Large And Small

In any given painting project, you have a chance of encountering imperfections on the surface that you’re going to be painting, and the temptation will be there to just paint over them and hope for the best.

Even the smallest hole that you are going to find in the surface being painted is better off properly fixed — for paint can only do so much and it can certainly not fix a hole in the wall.

5. Letting Paint Dry

If you’re only going to be applying one coat of paint to your living room walls, it should of course make sense that you’re going to need to allow time for the paint to dry.

More than one coat may make you wonder why you’d have to allow time for the first coat to dry.

The reason is that if you don’t allow that first coat of paint to dry, the application of a second coat will likely just remove some of the first coat, as it will not have had time to properly dry.
